The lady who made this piece was inspired by "The Rain Queen." The Balobedu tribe in the Limpopo province of South Africa is ruled by the Rain Queen. Handpainted one of a kind embellished journal by Mixed Media Artist Judith Fox Goldstein Amani's Moolelo (Story): Born in Barbados, AMANI (meaning peaceful) grew up in a large family with 6 brothers and sisters. Adventurous, curious and dedicated to helping people, Amani was accepted into the prestigious medical school and looking forward to a position at Ross University School of Medicine in Barbados. Life took an unexpected turn and Amani found herself in a dangerous relationship. Using all her knowledge and courage, she successfully left that relationship and went back to school to study criminal justice in an effort to become an advocate for abused women. “Hopefull Handbags”, an organization dedicated to supporting women of domestic abuse, was founded by Cathlene Miner as a tribute to her Grandmother. Now, a global effort, Hopefull Handbags provides shelter, education, training, support and empowerment to thousands of women worldwide. “Together We Are Stronger!” Proceeds go directly to Hopefull Handbags, Raising Hope, Help, and Support to Survivors of Domestic Abuse. However, she always wanted to study acting in the US. So, she saved her money and, even against her parent’s wishes, she left the traditional women’s role in Japan and took her adventure to N.Y.C. She found her place, her career, and a new life – building on the arts, culture, and love she also had for her home country in Japan.
